Description

the frieze opening with a drawer, with fluted columned legs, with a white marble tray and top, traces of a stamp; (one gilt-mount foot missing)

Haut. 85 cm, larg. 115 cm, prof. 38,5 cm Height. 33 ½ in, width. 45 1/4 in, depth.15 1/4 in.

The attribution of this console-desserte to the cabinetmaker Caspar Schneider is based on its stylistic similarity to the pair of mahogany console tables stamped by him now in the Louvre Museum (inv. OA 10484 and OA 10485), with very similar gilt-bronze mounts. A very similar stamped console table was sold at Christie's New York on May 21, 2003.
