From its impressive size to its crisp, openwork carvings of foliage and scrolls, this so-called 'table à gibier' exhibits all the characteristics of the Régence period. The masks and fantastical animals that decorate it evoke the compositions of ornamentalists such as Jean-Bernard Turreau, known as Toro, Nicolas Pineau, and Pierre Le Pautre, as well as the work of sculptors from the Société des Bâtiments du Roi, including Degoullons, Matthieu Legoupil, and Jacques Verbeckt (see, for example, the console table attributed to the sculptor Degoullons and supplied in 1713 for the Château de Bercy, B. Pallot, Le Mobilier du Musée du Louvre, Paris, 1993, vol. II, pp. 36–39, ill.). A similar, slightly smaller table was offered at Sotheby's London, 19 November 2025, lot 172.
