Amsterdam Sauer is a prestigious Brazilian jeweller that was founded in 1953 by the Frenchman Jules Sauer, whose passion for gemstones led to interesting discoveries in the decades to come. Credited with the discovery and recognition of the first Brazilian emeralds in 1963, Sauer’s lifelong promotion of coloured gemstones is also reflected in the jewellery and hardstone sculptures created by the firm, often in the shape of animals. For another figure of a bird, see, for example, Million, Paris, 23 June 2023, lot 191.
