Jean-Michel Basquiat. Zurich: Edition Gallery Bruno Bischofberger Editions, 1985

4to (295 x 255 mm). Signed and numbered on verso of title, 12 full-page color plates of Basquiat pantings, one of which folding, and a photographic portrait of Basquiat by Jeannette Montgomery; small crease to the top left corner of the folding plate, faint toning to margins generally not affecting images. Red publisher's cloth, spine lettered in black; very minor toning to pastedowns and end leaves. Lower panel of dust jacket lightly scuffed, light wear to edges, with minor rippling and toning.

A signed limited catalog, number 484 of 1,000 copies, with plates showing 12 paintings from Jean-Michel Basquiat’s 1985 exhibition at Gallery Bruno Bischofberger

After Jean-Michel Basquiat left the Annina Nosei Gallery in 1982, Bruno Bischofberger became his worldwide representative and dealer. Bischofberger formed a close bond with the artist, sometimes even allowing him to create works in his home. As Basquiat's popularity grew, he had six solo exhibitions at the Zurich-based Gallery Bruno Bischofberger. The show that the present lot commemorates took place from 19 January to 16 February 1985.

Signed books by Basquiat are uncommon.
