Well worked with each end of the arc to depict a dragon’s end, the pendant is particularly notable for the superb openwork rendering of the stylised phoenix motifs seen along the curved arc, including the central pair flanking the suspension hole and portrayed with elongated tails extending onto the main arc of the pendant. See a similar Warring States period jade ‘dragon’ pendant with openwork designs, excavated at Linzi in Shandong, and now preserved in Zibo Museum, illustrated in Zhongguo chutu yuqi quanji/The Complete Collection of Jades Unearthed in China, Beijing, 2005, vol. 4, pl. 192, and another late Warring States period example formerly from the Chang Wei-Hwa collection, sold at Christie’s Hong Kong, 3rd December 2021, lot 2739.
