32cm. diam.

Ex-collection Ralph Brocklebank (1840-1921), Haughton, Cheshire, by 12 September 1916;

Thence by descent

This dish unusually records the initials 'D.A.' to the reverse, which appears to have been later inscribed. Though this figure remains unidentified, it must have been the work of a later European owner.

The potter of this dish has maximised the space in the central roundel, using its outline to propel the upper part of the curving saz leaf around to the left. This used of space is further enhanced by the white ground of the rim which establishes a feeling of openness to the entire design.
