Three volumes, 4to (226 x 183 mm). Half-title in vol. 1, vols. 1-2 15 folding plates, vol. 3 one folding plate. Contemporary German half calf, decorated paper boards; light wear, generally attractive.
First edition. Oppel’s work on surveying was "undoubtedly the most complete and thorough work in which this science is treated and explained to a high degree of accuracy, and entirely with a view to making it useful to the surveyor, testifies to the author's great mathematical knowledge" (Koch). Volume 3 consists mostly of logarithmic tables.
