2 volumes bound in 3, 8vo (214 x 132 mm). 30 engraved plates, some folding, 5 printed in color; paper repairs along the fore edges of the first 3 leaves in volume I, not affecting the text, minor and occasional pale spotting, a very good uncut set. Modern paste paper, type-printed spine labels; a few tiny spots of wear, the spine ends of Volume II are softened.

First edition of Faujas de Saint-Fond’s (1741-1819) final work, covering a number of geological and mineralogical topics, including fossils, minerals, and the origins of volcanoes. The author was professor of geology at the Museum d’Histoire Naturelle in Paris.

Rare—the last time this work appeared at auction was in 2001 at the Freilich Sale. Not in Ward & Carozzi.
