Description
Boodt, Anselmus de — Adrian Toll, ed.
Gemmarum et Lapidum Historia… Leyden: J. Maire, 1636
8vo (181 x 108 mm). Woodcut printer’s device on title, two folding tables, woodcut illustrations in text, woodcut initials; slightly over-opened at the title, small chip in the margin of the fourth leaf not affecting the text, very minor and occasional spots, altogether a fresh copy. Contemporary vellum, yapp edges, all edges sprinkled red; boards slightly warped, light soiling, some scuffing mostly to the front board, one corner lightly bumped.
The second edition of Anselmus De Boodt’s important treatise on mineralogy and gemology, revised and enlarged by Adrian Toll (1610-1675), professor of medicine at Leyden. Many of the woodcut illustrations have also been improved, and several have been added here for the first time. The extensive index is also a notable addition.
