4to (191 x 142 mm). Gothic types. Title printed in red and black within fine woodcut border incorporating portraits of Hippocrates, Galen, Pliny and others, 63 woodcut text illustrations (including 22 botanical subjects, 17 obstetrical subjects, 21 zoological figures, and a blood-letting man); scattered staining, chiefly marginal. Modern vellum over marbled boards, early red edges, plain endpapers.


First Manger edition of Ryff’s enduring popularization of Albertus Magnus. Manger continued to issue the work until 1591. Rare: Rare Book Hub records no other copies of the 1571 edition.
