An Egyptian Green Schist Figure of a Man, 12th/early 13th Dynasty, 1938-1700 B.C.


seated on the ground with his legs crossed, his right hand clasping his garment, his left hand resting on his chest, and wearing an enveloping cloak and broad wig with pointed lappets; on an integral trapezoidal tenon.

Height 9.5 cm., 3¾ in.

Françoise Schlumberger-Primat (1917-1998), Château de Grandchamp, Calvados, France, acquired in the 1960s or earlier;

by descent to the present owner.

The present figure was probably inserted into an inscribed base bearing the name and titles of its owner (see https://collections.louvre.fr/en/ark:/53355/cl010005864).
