The translated inscriptions around the rim read: "These lights that we kindle [are in commemoration of the miracles... that You performed] in those days, in this season."
The central part of this design features the key images of the Hanukkah story, the cruse, or pitcher, of oil, and the seven branched Temple Menorah. The artist designed the piece so that it could, if the owner desired, burn continuously for eight days, following the Hannukah miracle; it can also be extinguished each night.
