Folio (305 x 210 mm). Italic type, 62 lines plus headline, text in two columns. collation: π-10π8 a-z8 A-Y8 (10π8 a blank): 440 leaves. Woodcut Aldine device on title-page, verso of K8, and final verso, early marginalia. (Worming and soiling, a few closed tears, browning and dampstaining.)
binding: Contemporary German pigskin over beveled wooden boards (326 x 230 mm), blind tooled, four concentric rectangular frames, outer frame with repeated arch tool over semi-circle covering a small rosette, second frame containing repeated leafy tool over guilloche, third frame containing repeated bud and leaf tool, inner frame containing repeated saltires, central panel with rosettes and floral tools, spine with raised bands in seven compartments, a single remaining metal corner piece, catches and remains of clasps. (Worn with loss, some staining.)
provenance: Purchase inscription "Liber Magistri Ioannis Bremarii Wartbergensis Emptus in Alma Universitate Lipsiensi anno 1532 3 florenis" to lower pastedown, apparently the Johannes Byerman (Berman, Biermann) of Warburg, Saxony, who matriculated at Leipzig Wintersemester 1531 (Erler, Die Matrikel der Universität Leipzig, I, p. 6), took his MA 1535, and after 1537 was Professor — inscription on upper pastedown — J.M.
