A handsome contemporary Venetian binding produced for a member of the Fugger family. For other books with Fugger provenance, see lots 1587 (Amboise), 1606 (Boccaccio), 1683 (Ficino), 1693 (Galen), and 1828 (Sallust).

2 volumes, 8vo (vol.1: 153 x 104 mm; vol.2: 151 x 103 mm). Italic type, 29 lines plus headline. collation: a-z8 &8 Ƨ8 R8 2a-2z8 2&88 2R8 3a-3r8; A-3V8: 552 + 520 leaves.


binding: Contemporary Venetian dark brown morocco (vol.1: 160 x 115 mm; vol.2: 158 x 113 mm), richly gilt, outer frame formed by single gilt fillet and multiple blind fillets, gilt rosette at outer corners, inner frame of single gilt fillet with excedrae at centrepoints flanked by multiple blind fillets, gilt leaf at outer corners, central panel with gilt rosette at corners and large central gilt ornament composed of leafy tools surrounding a flower with leafy stem, traces of 4 pairs of fabric ties, spine with 3 full and 4 half bands, edges gilt with twin dots gauffered around sides, housed in modern black cloth boxes.
