Daggers of this form were the ubiquitous weapon worn by men throughout the Caucasus. Decoration varied widely, often incorporating inlaid niello, ivory plaques with gold and other luxurious materials. The goldwork on this dagger is unusually heavy and thick enough to be finely carved with florets.
