Priming flasks of this form are not widely published, possibly because they are not made of precious materials. The general form appears however to have been ubiquitous across the Near East, with attributions including North Africa and Saudi Arabia (Victoria and Albert Museum, inv. nos.M.148-1923, 1371-1874 and 626-1876). However, Stone attributes two with forms close to the two shown here to Iran which is the most convincing attribution (George C. Stone, A Glossary of the Construction, Decoration and Use of Arms and Armour in All Countries and in All Times, reprinted New York, Jack Brussel, 1961, pp.515-6, fig.660, nos.3 & 6).
