Second edition, 25 volumes, 4to (254 x 186mm), portrait frontispiece, titles in red and black, numerous engraved plates and maps, engraved vignettes, contemporary marbled calf, spines with raised bands in 6 compartments, red and green gilt-lettered calf labels in two, the rest gilt; red edges, some closed tears, occasional browning to maps, extremities slightly rubbed and bumped; sold not subject to return.

Second (and best) edition of a landmark collection of travels and voyages. First published in 20 volumes (Paris, 1746-89), the second edition is for the most part a reprint of the Paris edition, "but with many corrections and additions" (Sabin), including 172 plates not present in the first edition.
