Acquired from the above in 2011 by the present owner

Born in 1881, Philip Goodwin sketched constantly and, as a true child prodigy, sold his first illustration at the age of eleven. Noticing their child’s clear talent, Goodwin’s parents sent him to study at the Rhode Island School of Design and the Art Students League in New York, but he found his footing studying under Howard Pyle at Drexel University. Goodwin felt drawn to Western outdoor scenes, whether it be animals, nature, or people. After illustrating The Call of the Wild, Goodwin was in high demand and sold works to The Saturday Evening Post, Harper’s Monthly, Harper’s Weekly, and more.
