Fullenius’ polemical letter on priority dispute over determination of longitude at sea with Lieuwe Willemz de Graaf.

The method of properly calculating longitudes at sea was a major question of the seventeenth century, as the determination of distance between two ships, let alone a ship and a coast were the cause of numerous nautical accidents. Fullenius and De Graaf made up only two players in a much longer saga of polemic pamphlets amongst the Dutch provinces.

4to (200 x 159 mm). 16 pages, 2 in-text woodcut diagrams; title with repair, leaves lightly toned with the occasional spot and wormhole, few tears, with marginal loss to B4 not affecting text. Old marbled wrappers; worn.
