This fine and elegant pastel of a gentleman in a brown velvet jacket and lace Jabot is stylistically similar to the work of Louis Vigée (1715-1767).
We are most grateful to Neil Jeffares, who, from a digital image, has suggested a date of circa 1760 and has remarked that the handling is close to some of Louis Vigée's work.
