Description

Wilde, Oscar

Oscariana. London: Arthur L. Humphreys, 1914

8vo (140 x 110 mm). Half-title, additional ornamental title dated 1895, 7 engraved vignettes tipped in. Three quarter black pebble-grain morocco and gray cloth-covered boards, bound by Birdsall for Charles Scribner's Sons, spine with raised bands in two compartments, first gilt-lettered, second with gilt floral motif, top edge gilt, marbled endpapers; some rubbing and staining to extremities, some offsetting onto endpapers.

The last work published before Wilde's fall.

Oscariana had been the idea of Oscar's wife, Constance, who in the summer of 1894 engaged Arthur Humphreys (with whom she may also have been romantically involved) to assist with the publication.
