On April 4, 1824, the sessions of the second constitutional legislature were formally installed from Colombia. The Senate, chaired by General Rafael Urdaneta, counted this year with the attendance of 24 senators. Santander speech occurred in April 6, 1824 at the opening of the sessions of the Congress.

 

The Congress of Colombia in 1824 agreed:

 

Grants aid to Bolívar for his campaign in the south

 

Suppresses the extraordinary faculties of the Lliberator

 

- Approves the union treaties with Mexico and Argentina

 

- The national territory is divided into departments, provinces and cantons in an attempt to reduce centralism.
