Bonham's 2, San Francisco, 31 March 1993, lot 4663.

The arms are those of Irby for Sir William Irby, 1st Baron Boston (1707-1775). He was raised to the peerage as Baron Boston on 10 April 1761, when the coronet was presumably added. He filled several high offices about the court during the reigns of George I and George II.

This dish was part of a larger service. Twelve plates identically engraved were sold Bonham's 2, New York, 5 May 2009, lot 3226. A 17-inch meat dish, numbered 2, was sold Sotheby's, New York, 20 October 2009, lot 243, and a pair of 12 1/2 in. meat dishes were sold Christie's London, 1 December 2004, lot 283, having come from J.H. Bourdon-Smith.
