8vo (141 x 87 mm), annotations in an early modern hand, woodcut vignette on title-page, nineteenth-century calf, title-page soiled, dampstained, and repaired at corner; wormed, interleaved, endleaves renewed


This popular work on chess first appeared in Spanish in 1561; this translation was first published in Paris in 1609. The last copy of the present edition to appear at auction was the Macclesfield copy in 2005. See lots 42–44.
