circular, the lid centred with a gold plaque chased in high relief with a woman and child in a rural setting, on a sablé background, under domed glass, on a chrysophrase-coloured lacquer ground, framed by pierced interlaced gold borders, the sides similarly decorated, the base centred with a gold openwork floral ornament, illegible maker’s mark, charge and discharge marks of Eloi Brichard (1756-62), Paris date letter for 1761, later French eagle’s head control mark,

7.4 cm., 2 ⅞ in diam.
