rectangular with cut corners, all sides set with portrait miniatures painted on vellum, attributed to Moreau le Jeune, the one on the lid based on The Swing by Jean-Honoré Fragonard (1767/1768), the gold cagework mounts chased with entrelac-de-rubans borders and stamped with a zig-zag pattern, the angles to sides chased with columns flanking chased scrolling palmettes, maker's marks, charge mark of Julien Alaterre, the left rim numbered: 178 (or 478), post-1918 French eagle's head control marks for 18 ct gold,
