Private collection, Italy

Following his formative years at the Brera Academy, where he studied under Giuseppe Bertini and Raffaele Casnedi, Ripari became immersed in Milan’s vibrant and bohemian Scapigliatura movement, where he developed a signature style characterised by soft, vaporous brushstrokes and a masterful orchestration of colour.

In 1879, during Queen Victoria’s stay at Villa Clara in Baveno on Lake Maggiore, the artist produced a number of views of the surrounding landscape. The Queen acquired several of his oils and watercolours for the Royal Collection.
