Description

Tin-glazed earthenware (maiolica)

14.6cm. high, 5¾in.

Dr. Hans Reimer Collection, Hamburg;

Rainer Zietz Ltd., London, 2011;

Where acquired.

The ornament is in the Deruta manner, but the presence of red lustre on this small vase suggests that it was made and decorated in Gubbio, perhaps by an artisan trained at Deruta. For the discussion of Gubbio ceramics alla derutese see Sannipoli (2010, op. cit. p.32).
