8vo (175 x 96 mm). Black letter type, engraved ornament to title page and tailpiece to final page; light foxing and toning to text throughout, a few stray stains. Contemporary purple paper-covered boards, printed paper label to spine, edges stained red; lower corners bumped, spine sunned.


First edition—the Norman copy.


Werner’s last major work, which explored the origin of ore deposits and “helped to make the study of vein formation an integral part of historical geology” (Norman).
