Paracelsus (P.A.T. Bombast von Hohenheim)

Chirurgische Bucher und Schriffeen... sambt einem Appendice... durch Johannem Huserum. Strassburg: Lazarus Zetzner, 1605

 

Folio (323 x 205 mm). Title-page printed in red and black within woodcut border, 4 divisional title-pages each with device, small woodcut portrait of the author on fol. 2, 4 woodcuts on XXXI; holes in III and KKK4, a few printing flaws, some browning. Contemporary vellum over boards, beveled fore-edge; soiled, remnants of two ties. Modern half red morocco case.


The Honeyman copy of the first complete edition of the surgical writings of Paracelsus, compiled by Johann Huser from the first Strassburg folio edition of Paracelsus’s collected works in German. Huser first issued Paracelsus’s complete medical and philosophical works in 1589. This edition has an appendix of alchemical works, not included in the Huser first edition.
