Description

Brückmann, Franz Ernst

Epistola Itineraria L. Memorabilia Musei Lesseriani. Wolfenbüttel: n.p., 1735

4to (212 x 164 mm). 16 pages, two engraved plates, one of which folding; some pale spotting. Modern marbled boards.

The plates depict specimens from the collection of Friedrich Christian Lesser of Nordhausen in Prussia. Brückmann (1697-1753) was a practicing physician at Braunschweig and Wolfenbüttel and an avid devotee of natural history subjects. Three separate Centuria of letters were published, with each “epistola” issued separately. Complete sets are understandably scarce. This work describes Lesser’s most important natural history objects: minerals, zoological specimens, and plants.
