The death of the Magdalene

inscribed along the upper stretcher: Masucci 250 / Deposi [...] o / Colonna

oil on canvas, unlined

framed: 166.1 x 117.8 cm.; 65⅜ x 46⅜ in.

Possibly Colonna Collection, Palazzo Colonna, Rome (according to an inscription on the reverse).

We are grateful to Dott. Francesco Petrucci for proposing an attribution to Agostino Masucci on the basis of digital images. He believes that Masucci was inspired by a late composition attributed to Giuseppe Bartolomeo Chiari, preserved in the Church of San Lorenzo, Zagarolo.1
