This charming composition is comparable with a painting by Saftleven, dated either 1641 or 1647, in a private collection, Vienna.1 Saftleven's landscapes from the 1640s evidence the influence of Cornelis van Poelenburgh (1594–1667) and Jan Dirksz. Both (c. 1615–1652).

Dr Wolfgang Schulz endorsed the attribution of this painting to Saftleven in a letter of expertise dated 5 August 1993.
