acquired at the above sale by the present owner

Sabina Antonini, La statuaria sudarabica in pietra (Repertorio iconographico sudarabico, I), Paris and Rome, 2001, p. 159, E90, pl. 105

For a related head see Sotheby's, London, December 17th, 1996, no. 166 (S. Antonini, Op. cit., p. 159, E91, pl. 105).

The “Lady Greenwood” designated in the Christie’s catalogue as the former owner of this sculpture was possibly the widow of Sir. Antony Greenwood, who was the Colonial Secretary in the 1960s when Aden gained its independence. He passed away a few months prior to the 1982 auction.
