With Hal O’Nians, London, by 1966, and believed to have been acquired at Sotheby’s as Jan Brueghel the Elder;
From whom acquired by the father of the present owner.
This meticulously executed painting is a high-quality workshop replica of a work by Jan Brueghel the Elder, signed and dated 1597, formerly with Johnny van Haeften, London.1 The two figures in the left foreground and the landscape as a whole are taken from an earlier work by Brueghel of 1595 depicting The Sacrifice of Jonah, also formerly with Johnny van Haeften.2
