Though only around a dozen drawings can be securely attributed to this important 16th-century Valencian painter1, this unpublished study is closely comparable in style with some of those other drawings, and in particular with the study of Saint Sebastian, in the Museo Casa della Moneda, Madrid.2 In style, Joan de Joanes reflects a mixture of influences, both Italian (in particular that of Raphael) and Netherlandish.
