This sheet of studies is a fascinating glimpse into the artist's working methods. The main oeuvre of Berjon is made up of large flower paintings, and he was heavily involved in the famous silk factory in Lyon, around which a number of talented artists gravitated. The present study is a fine example of his delicate handling of detail and texture, also seen in one of his masterpieces, currently preserved in the Musée du Louvre (RF 1974-10).
