A Work of Art - During the past week there has been on view at the establishment of Messrs. Ollivant and Botsford, Exchange Street, Manchester, a very elegant specimen of artistic skill in silver, intended to be presented to Mr. John Crosby, banker, of Kirkby Thure. This specimen of the fine arts consists of a candelabrum in silver, for six lights, with glasses, so that it may be used as an epergne. Upon a triangular base there are three figures emblematic of Justice, Agriculture and Commerce, with characteristic emblems under each figure upon the angles of the base. A fluted column rising from the base supports three scroll branches, each of which divides into two parts, so as to form six altogether, surmounted by an open basket, with a glass for flowers. The figures are frosted silver, and the base is enriched with chaste scroll ornaments. The whole weighs 340 ounces. The candelabrum bears the following inscription:

Presented to John Crosby, Esq., of Kirkby Thure, by his numerous friends as a mark of their esteem in which he is held for his high position as a private banker, his generous liberality in all business transactions, his zealous support of agriculture, and the many virtues that adorn his public and private life. 1858
