A Roman Marble Figure of Sleeping Eros with the attributes of Herakles, circa 2nd Century A.D., with circa 17th Century Restorations
lying on the Nemean lion 's skin with his left leg crossed over his right leg, resting his head on his left hand, and holding a club in his right hand, a bunch of poppies lying on the rock

acquired at auction by the present owner.
The composition, faithfully reproduced by the restorer, is based on a Hellenistic original of which several other Roman copies survive: see M.
