Large folio (613 x 483 mm), world map by Thomas Bakewell and 32 further double-page engraved maps by William Berry, of which 7 maps accompanied by engraved table, all maps hand-coloured in outline, 7 further eighteenth- and nineteenth-century maps loosely inserted, early manuscript index tipped onto front pastedown, contemporary boards, boards very rubbed
Berry's world atlas, which has earned him the name "the English Sanson", was based around derivatives of 32 maps from Alexis Hubert Jaillot's Atlas nouveau, published in Paris in 1674-1681. The bound maps comprise:
