Description
Porzio, Camillo. La congiura de' baroni del regno di Napoli, contra il re Ferdinando primo, raccolta dal s. Camillo Portio. Rome: [anonymous press], 1565
The Peiresc-Soubise-Leclerc-Conte della Trinità-McLaughlin copy, with Soubise ink pressmarks.
Counterfeit of the Aldine 1565 edition, with Aldine anchor to the title. This is distinguished by "73" instead of "75" on the first line of the last page and typographical irregularities of the italic type. Edit16 suggests it was printed after 1565. See lot 601.
4to (215 x 151 mm). Roman type, 32 lines plus headline. collation: §4 A-Y4: 100 leaves. Counterfeit Aldine device to title- page. (Intermittent spotting, marginal discoloration to first and last leaves.)
binding: Early seventeenth-century French red morocco (219 x 158 mm), presumably by Simon Corberan at Aix-en- Provence, triple gilt fillet around sides, gilt monogram of N.C. Fabri de Peiresc in center of covers, spine gilt with small flower in compartments, red speckled edges. (Head and tail of spine slightly rubbed with minor loss, adhesive stain to endleaves.)
