First volume of the second Lyonese counterfeit edition of Ovid, this volume copying the Aldine October 1502 edition.
8vo (165 x 95 mm). Italic type, 32 lines plus headline. collation: a-z8 A8 I8 310 (A8 a blank): 210 leaves. Woodcut Aldine device on title-page, interlinear notes on fol. a3r. (Restoration to title, title reattached, scattered spotting and staining.)
binding: Contemporary French calf over pasteboards (174 x 105 mm), frame between two broad blind rules containing roll of chalice with stem flanked by fleur-de-lis and another vessel flanked by vegetative forms, central panel empty, spine with raised bands in five compartments, edges gilt and gauffered to a pattern of seven-petaled flowers (Rebacked to style, corners restored, endleaves renewed.)
