AN INTRICATE PARISIAN INLAID BINDING À LA FANFARE.

16mo (123 x 72 mm). Italic type, 30 lines plus headline. collation: α-γ8 A-3D8 (final leaf blank): 424 leaves. Woodcut printer's device on title-page, woodcut initials, head- and tailpieces, ruled in red. (Staining to upper margin throughout, some dampstaining to lower margin, leaves evenly browned, paper flaw to L1 affecting 3 letters.)


binding: Parisian inlaid binding à la fanfare (130 x 78 mm), c. 1600, ?red morocco inlaid with burgundy red, citron and olive green morocco, gold tooled, gilt fillets around sides, interlacing strapwork with compartments cut out and filled with coloured inlays tooled with leafy branches, flowers, tendrils, small open leaf tools and dots, central empty oval compartment of citron morocco bordered by dots, flat spine, gold tooled and inlaid carrying over the cover design, traces of 2 clasps, edges gilt. (350 x 200 mm section of upper corner of upper board neatly restored, with a few other small neat repairs, including corners and foot of spine, lacking clasps.)
