[VENICE]. Ordini delli advocati della citta di Vinetia Statuiti per il collegio delli XX. Savii sopra le lezze & confirmati per il maggiore conseglio. Venice: Giovanni Padovano & Venturino Ruffinelli, 18 May 1537
RARE STATUTES OF THE VENETIAN ADVOCATES OF SAN MARCO AND THE RIALTO, IN A CONTEMPORARY VENETIAN FORTUNA BINDING. The volume contains rules for lawyers in Venice with special positions of trust in civil and criminal cases. There is a manuscript index at the beginning and a manuscript leaf at the end containing a copy of a decree by the Maggior Consiglio, dated 17 January 1539 (listing changes in some of the regulations). Breslauer suggested that this copy was bound at the order of the Signoria of Venice, arguing, "The designation ‘pars aurea’ must surely be understood as the republican equivalent of the medieval ‘pars regia’, i.e. the fisc, treasury or exchequer of the Venetian state".
Other bindings decorated by similar stamps of Fortuna are offered as lots 1605 (Boccaccio) and 1611 (Boscán).
