AN EARLY GUIDEBOOK TO PARIS, ATTRACTIVELY ILLUSTRATED with numerous woodcuts by Vincent Le Sueur. This work was published anonymously, with parts attributed to Georges-Louis Le Rouge and Jean-Aymar Piganiol, but its author is most likely the writer and bookseller Claude-Marin Saugrain himself.

12mo (167 x 102 mm). Roman type. collation: ã4 e2 A-2P8-4: 246 leaves. Headpieces of printer's flowers, engraved headpieces and printer's ornaments, numerous in-text woodcut illustrations by Vincent Le Sueur.


binding: Contemporary French calf (172 x 109 mm), spine with raised bands, gilt with open fleur-de-lys tool, stars and leafy tendrils, brown title label, marbled edges. (Rubbed.)


provenance: First two endleaves pasted together, obscuring several ownership inscriptions on a second endleaf, including the eighteenth-century inscription of "A. Baudet". acquisition: Purchased in 1962 on the Quays, Paris.
