Height of taller 15 cm, 6 in.

German private collection, formed in Germany during the 1980s and 1990s.

The bowl of the ritual vessel decorated with festoons, with a flange extending from one side for the insertion of a wood (?) handle, all supported on a lotus issuing from a tapering circular base. The suspension loop attached to the head of a rampant mythical beast with teeth bared and front paws raised: compare the suspension loop of a 9th century temple bell in Jan Fontein, The Sculpture of Indonesia, Washington and New York, 1990, cat. no. 70.
