of rectangular form with folding cover, embroidered with cross-hatched cartouches and acanthus leaves, the reverse a floral vase, the front inscribed 'Constantinople 1789'

11.8 by 18.7cm.

A wallet of closely comparable embroidered decoration is in the Ömer M. Koç Collection, see Bilgi 2022, pp.138-9, no.35. The interior of the present wallet bears a note in German which records that the wallet was gifted to the recipient by a certain Marta on the day of the Feast of St Boniface in 1820 to mark the recipient's ordination.
