Boisseau was a pupil of Augustin-Alexandre Dumont (1801-1884) and Jean-Marie Bonnassieux (1810-1892) at l’École nationale supérieure des Beaux-Arts, Paris. He appeared regularly at the Paris Salon, and then at the French Artist’s Salon, with notable works including La Crépuscule, which won first-place medal in 1883, and Le Génie du mal, which won a second-place medal in 1880.
