Description

William Wordsworth

Yarrow Revisited and Other Poems. London: Edward Moxon, 1839

PRESENTATION COPY INSCRIBED BY WORDSWORTH TO HIS FELLOW WALKER IN THE LAKE DISTRICT LAURA CARR ("To Laura Carr | from | William Wordsworth; | In the hope that the volume | will serve to remind her | of many pleasant walks | taken in this neighbourhood | W.W. | Rydal Mount. Febr[uar]y 11, 1840"), 8vo, third edition, nineteenth-century maroon morocco gilt, all edges gilt, gilt dentelles, preserved in quarter brown morocco folding box, minor wear to joints

Opposite the presentation inscription is an inserted thin leaf with a pressed dried flower with a note (probably in Laura Carr's hand) "Geranium Robertianum or 'Herb Robert'. Gathered by Mr. Wordsworth on the walk on the road between Ambleside and Windermere and given me Tuesday, October 20, 1840".

A SUPERB PRESENTATION COPY, linking Wordsworth with a fellow walker and his own famous walks in the Lakes, when he composed aloud so many of his celebrated poems.
