Private collection

According to a pencil note on the bottom of the album page from the collection of King Philip V of Spain on which the drawing is mounted (see Provenance), the famous collector Janos Scholz (1903-1993) proposed an attribution to Giovanni Battista Paggi (1554-1627). This is one of a group of drawings sold at Christie's in 1966 which originated from an album numbered V; it was bound in red leather, tooled with gold, and bore the Spanish royal coat-of-arms, in the form used from 1700 until 1714.
